LEE ROBINSON

Lee Robinson is the founder and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Altana Wealth. He has over 30 years’ experience in the financial markets and has generated significant gross profit for his investors.

Lee founded Altana in 2009 with the vision of building a firm centred on his expertise to uncover specialist, often overlooked or disregarded opportunities, leverage deep analytical capabilities to assess potential outcomes, and time trades to deliver alpha.

Recognising what he saw as a serious issue in the fund management industry – that fund managers were largely misaligned with their investors – and seeing this as an opportunity to scale the business, he opened Altana to external co-investors in 2011.

Altana invests meaningfully in its funds from the outset and focuses on investment performance rather than management fees, keeping the firm 100% aligned with its co-investors.

In 2001, Lee co-founded Trafalgar Asset Managers, where he served as CIO of the Trafalgar Catalyst Fund and the Trafalgar Special Situations Fund. After launching with $6 million in capital, Trafalgar grew its AUM to over $3 billion, employed over 40 staff, and won multiple industry awards and nominations.

Before Trafalgar, Lee spent three years at Tudor Capital as a senior manager, building a global equity risk arbitrage portfolio and developing a risk system he later brought to Trafalgar. He anticipated the 2007–2009 credit crisis and the subsequent sovereign stresses and traded profitably through 2008, including positions that hedged against deterioration of the financial system, the Icelandic default, subprime mortgages, and the weakening of European banks.

Earlier in his career, he traded equity and credit derivatives at Deutsche Bank, Bankers Trust and BNP Paribas.

Lee holds a BA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and is co-author of The Gathering Storm.
